Squishy Circuits (Ages 4-7)

Playdough + Electronics = Amazing!

Children love playdough, now they can bring their creations to life with LEDs, beepers, and switches.

Safe, fun, and easy for little hands!

Parents/teachers should make/bring the two special playdough & clay receipes BEFORE the workshop.
Students can trade playdough & clay during the class to get different colors.

The Deluxe version allows students to make and keep a Squishy Robot.

The Extended version is a half-day workshop allowing students to learn more about circuits, as they make and keep 2 Squishy Robots.

Group Size: This workshop is suited to groups of 20 - 200 students.
Larger groups will be split into smaller classes of approximately 15 - 20 children,
with classes running back-to-back. Length can be adjusted to suit group requirements

Workshop Details

Prerequisites: None. Introductory course – no prior experience or skills needed.
Materials Required: Special Playdough & Clay made/bought by the students before the workshop 

Students will be assigned to bring either Clay or Playdough to share.
Students will share/trade with each other to get colours they want (of playdough and clay).

Each student should bring 1 of the following to share:

Recipe for Conductive Playdough

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup salt (salt is the key ingredient to making it conduct electricity)
  • 1/2 cup plain flour
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tablespoon oil
  • 3 drops liquid food coloring

Method:

  • Mix all ingredients together in a medium-sized saucepan.
  • Stir over heat until dough is pliable.
  • Allow to cool, and store in a well- sealed plastic bag or container.
